Exhibition CUBE3 Gallery 7th - 25th June University of Plymouth.
Colloquium Autumn 2010 date to be announced
‘The Purposes of Drawing’ Exhibition and following one day colloquium that comprises artist speakers and a discussion session, offers fresh thinking and dialogues on the current practices of drawing taking place across the diverse disciplines and departments at Plymouth University. What is it that binds these disparate forms of drawing as such that they can be thought out as something akin to a conception of drawing? The exhibition and colloquium attempts to posit the question of whether a cross-discipline of drawing, which remains largely concealed, can be thought out under the same rubric - either in terms of its function and/or its form. How does drawing, as interpretive language that permits a procession of thought and understanding, realise itself as an independent?
Through the exhibition we have sought to bringing together a comprehensive survey of the diverse range of drawing within the university partnership research community. The exhibition is designed to inform debate, both in current practice and education as well as a way to expand the work of the colloquium into visual forms of valid research. By fostering links within both the University sectors and the wider community, the events and this interactive blog site aim to cultivate new collaborations through greater awareness of the activities of drawing currently in operation.
